Book Blogger Appreciation Week - Day Three

It's time for Day Three of Book Blogger Appreciation Week, hosted by the Estella Society! Today's prompt is to tell what I have read and loved because of a fellow blogger. I don't usually keep track of who has recommended what to me, or whose blog I originally saw a book on (so I'm sorry that I can't give anyone a shout out). But these are a few books that I know I never would have picked up if not for all the good things said about them in the blogosphere.

- The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (Cyborgs and fairy tale retellings? Whoever would have thought that this premise would have made for such an amazing series?)
- The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan (I am a complete Anglophile, but this one seemed like it would be too bubbly or too angsty. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it was neither!)
- I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai (I picked this up because of Nonfiction November. What a powerful read, and what an amazing person she is.)

- The Martian by Andy Weir (It sounded intriguing, but I probably never would have actually read it if not for all the gushing reviews out there.)
- The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley (Mysteries are typically not my genre, but everyone seems to love Flavia. Now I know why!)

Wouldn't it be fun to meet Flavia in real life?

Me, too! And even better, my husband read it too - faster than I think he's ever read any other book. :)

Hooray for Flavia! I often recommend her too, and mention her in my post today. Happy BBAW!

I think if you looked up "precocious" in the dictionary, you would find a picture of Flavia. :)

You know, I don't really keep track either, but now that I think about it, I kind of want to! I think it would be great if I actually could give a shout out to a fellow blogger (or bloggers!) for recommending a specific book :) I think Goodreads has a place where you can write in who recommended a book -- I should start using it!

And my husband's aunt recommended the Flavia series to me a while back -- I really should check it out one of these days, maybe on audio.

I think you're right about the Goodreads thing. I'll have to check that out, because I certainly want to give credit where credit is due!

I've seen The Martian on so many lists from today! (Not always in a positive way.) That's definitely one that got a ton of extra play from bloggers pushing it to each other.

Very true. I never would have picked up The Martian on my own. But everybody said it was so good that I had to give it a try!

Excellent, excellent choices! I can't recall exactly who turned me on to The Royal We, but I loved it so much I texted a bunch of IRL friends to demand they read it. It was so dang fun!

Yes, it was! Definitely a book I'll be rereading in the future. :)

I felt the same about The Royal We. And I thought it was a lot of fun. And I recommend it all the time. :-)

I am terrible about remembering who recommended what. Sometimes I think multiple book bloggers do, which can be impossible to track after awhile. I haven't yet read Cinder, but it's definitely on my TBR list. It's one book I really hope to read before the year is out.

I thought I was just about the last one to the Lunar Chronicles bandwagon, but I've had a lot of bloggers say they still need to read it when I mention it. I hope you get a chance to read Cinder this year. It's well worth it! :)

I definitely read The Martian because of blogger buzz... Likely the same for Cinder (although I want to say I got it on a whim) and Alan Bradley.

They are certainly ones that got talked up a lot. And thankfully, they lived up to the hype! (at least in my opinion)

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
