This weekly chance to add to your reading list is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.
The next holiday is almost upon us (at least, here in the United States, it is). My husband is only working two days this week, so we've got lots of family time ahead of us. And good food, of course! And once Thanksgiving is over, it's time to break out the Christmas decorations (I've already been listening to Christmas music for a week, so we might as well make the house match)!

What I Read Last Week

The Secret of the Swamp King by Jonathan Rogers (I enjoyed the first book, but I loved the second one! Can't wait to get my hands on the third!)
Inferno by Dante Alighieri (Yay, I finished! Although I need to read the entire Divine Comedy for my Classics Club list, and only the first part is on Serial Reader. Now I need to be just as good at reading a bit every day when it's on paper, not my phone.)
The Song of the Quarkbeast by Jasper Fforde (Loved it, as expected!)
All's Faire in Middle School by Victoria Jamieson (Oh, my goodness, I loved this one! We definitely need to buy a copy for the school library I volunteer at and get it into the hands of some middle schoolers!)

What I'm Reading Now

The Jane Austen Project by Kathleen A. Flynn (Enjoying this so far. Very unusual premise.)
Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift (69% complete!)

What's Coming Up Next

The Scent of Sake by Joyce Lebra (A book set in Japan, and then I am done with my Where Are You Reading? challenge!)

I used to be much more “strict” about no Christmas anything til after Thanksgiving — it still annoys me to see so much Christmas “stuff” in stores months ahead but I probably should just let that go lol Now with a toddler, I’m not so strict about it because I know that the time just flies by — I thought I borrowed Halloween and Thanksgiving books from the library too early but ended up being glad we started early because those holidays arrived in a blink! I’m going to try to do little man’s Christmas picture this week and I’ve started on some holiday reads — of course Christmas reading is one of my favorite traditions, so I want to leave us enough time — though we literally have been singing a favorite Little Drummer Boy board book year round, so i know we will have that LOL

Having a kid does seem to change things! I haven't pulled all our Christmas books off the shelf yet, but I need to do that soon.

My little guy loves the books where you sing the best, too. Do you ever hide them for a while because you're sick of them, or is that just me? ;)

Oh, I’ve hidden books before! I try to be patient with the ones he wants over and over but sometimes I need a break! Lately, it’s been the books that have pictures and basically just list stuff (different kinds of trucks, a Star Wars book from daddy’s shelf, a Christmas search-and-find, or ABC 123 books) that have no story that wear on me — I know those are good for him too but they are soooooo boring!

I haven't cracked out the Christmas music yet, but I have been enjoying a Christmas movie here and there... Here in the UK though we don't have Thanksgiving, so Christmas is coming!!!

It sounds like you have a lovely week ahead, especially with the family time. Happy reading & happy thanksgiving!

If I didn't have the Thanksgiving boundary, I would have been listening to Christmas music in September. It's probably a good thing for me to at least try to have some limits! :) Enjoy your Christmas preparations, Jade!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
