I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend with family, fireworks, and freedom!

What I Read Last Week

The Last Enchantments by Charles Finch

I got about halfway through The Universe Versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence, and decided that I really didn't want to finish it. Sad. I had really high hopes for that book.

What I'm Reading Now

Picture
She Walks in Beauty by Siri Mitchell (I am really enjoying this one. It's a Christian novel, set in the glitz and glamour of 1890s New York.)

What's Coming Up Next

Picture
Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool (This is the 2011 Newbery Award winner, and I'm reading it for my Newbery Reading Challenge.)

Your post has reminded me of something very important. I read all the Newbery winners several years ago, and I felt very happy about it...but I stopped and there have been several winners since! Thank you for this reminder.

You're welcome, Deb! Reading all the Newbery winners is my eventual goal. I'm getting there little by little. :)

I am doing a terrible job at reading Newbery books! I have read a few though. And..your challenge did cause me to order missing Newbery books or replace older copies at the library where I work. :)

I haven't been doing very well, either, so I'm trying to catch up this summer. I'm glad you were able to fill in the gaps in your library!

Kudos for setting aside a book that wasn't working for you! I have the hardest time with that because I keep hoping it will improve and then I get grumpy at all of the time I wasted reading it!

I'm usually not very good about not finishing books, either. I think it helped that the library due date was coming up, and I knew I couldn't finish both of the books I had left. Do I stick with one I know I don't like, or take my chances and hope the other is better? Luckily, the other one was better, so I'm glad I stopped reading the first one!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
