It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This weekly chance to add to your reading list is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.
Life has definitely returned to routine after the craziness of the holidays. We had a relaxing weekend at home - which was good, because we spent it baby-proofing the house. We have a crawler now! I have a feeling I'm going to be constantly replacing the books on my library shelves. Pulling them off seems to be popular. :)

Circumreading the World - Slipping Into Paradise: Why I Live in New Zealand by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson

What I Read Last Week

My Life in France by Julia Child (This was my book club book for the month. We each picked a biography to read, then shared about it at our meeting on Friday. It was a lot of fun!)
Slipping Into Paradise: Why I Live in New Zealand by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson (Not my favorite book of my Circumreading the World challenge, to say the least.)
Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery (I love revisiting Anne during this time of year!)

What I'm Reading Now

Blue Latitudes: Boldly Going Where Captain Cook Has Gone Before by Tony Horwitz (I'm only about 50 pages in, but this is a really fun read so far.)
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (I've always thought this was supposed to be a creepy book, but I'm nearly halfway through and it's like any other Victorian novel so far. Does it get creepier?)

What's Coming Up Next

My library is doing Blind Date with a Book, so I'm hoping to stop there this week and pick up my next surprise read. I've seen this around, but haven't had a chance to participate, so I'm pretty excited!

Blind Date with a Book sounds fun! And oh boy, crawling! Things certainly get interesting at this stage. It's amazing the things they can get into that you don't even think twice about beforehand! I've been pretty lucky on the pulling books down front -- my son LOVES to pull all the books off his own shelf -- to the point that now just a few really get put there on purpose and the rest are in baskets on the floor. But for the "grown-up" shelves, he's mostly fascinated by this one green book (and a few more on either side) and pretty much just pulls those few down (over and over and over again...). Of course as soon as I say this, he'll probably change his mind and start tearing the whole shelf apart -- haha!

I'm realizing now that I didn't arrange his bookshelf in a very helpful way. All the big picture books are on the bottom shelf, and all of the board books are out of his reach. I think I'm going to have to do some rearranging!

I had no idea how un-babyproof our house was until he started crawling. I think babies have a sixth sense for what they shouldn't play with, and then head directly for that thing!

I did same thing! I have since moved all the paper picture books to the family shelves in the living room and just have all his board books in his room. He's big on filling up baskets and boxes, so we read the books, but he also has fun pulling them all out and filling the baskets back up. Toddlers are silly and YES they do head directly for what they shouldn't play with! Good luck :)

I keep meaning to reread Anne every year and then I slack on it!

As soon as I reread one Anne book, I want to just keep going and reread them all! They're so good! :)

A reader just like you!! Wyatt loves books too, and is constantly pulling them out and "reading" them. Yay for young readers! :)

I love the idea that you all read a biography and shared about it. What a cool idea. And I love Blind Date with a Book! I'm looking forward to seeing what you get as your date.

My little guy definitely loves playing with my books. I'll have to start removing all the dust jackets if they're going to survive! :)

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
