This weekly chance to add to your reading list is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.
There's finally snow on the ground! Only about an inch, but it counts. And we have a Christmas tree up, covered in lights - and that's it. No ornaments this year! So far my little guy has touched it a few times and tried to hug it twice, but no damage done. Every time he sees it, he points and says, "Ooh!". We haven't put up any other decorations yet. One step at a time. But it still feels like Christmas around here!

What I Read Last Week

The Case for the Real Jesus by Lee Strobel (Fascinating and really well done.)
The War I Finally Won by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley (AMAZING! Just as good as the first one. Read these books immediately. Please.)
The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper (I don't know how I missed out on this series as a kid. I'm enjoying it now.)

What I'm Reading Now

The Eye of Zoltar by Jasper Fforde (The last of my Jasper Fforde "rereads" for the year isn't actually a reread. I'm so excited! A Jasper Fforde book I haven't read yet!!)
Erewhon by Samuel Butler (Still chipping away at my Classics Club list through Serial Reader. 14% complete)

What's Coming Up Next

Sourdough by Robin Sloan (I snatched this one off the new shelf at my library. I can't wait!)

I’m so glad you got to read The War I Finally Won — and I totally agree! I’m lending that to my mom next time I see her because she was almost done with The War That Saved My Life and really likes it. I couldn’t bring the sequel to Thanksgiving because I lent it to a friend — gotta spread the love about those books! It was the friend I lent it to who recommended the first book to me too, but our library had a long hold list :)

I can't believe I loved the sequel just as much as the original. I thought it was going to be so hard to top - or even just equal - The War That Saved My Life, but she did it! I love that you are recommending middle grade books to your mom! I do the same thing. I have her reading The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series right now. :) I recommended The War That Saved My Life to my book club, because half of them are teachers and it seems like the perfect book to share with a classroom!

I remember reading Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series when I was a kid and thinking they were a little odd but I know my brother and sister loved them. I may have to pick them up again someday.

If I remember right, I started reading The Dark Is Rising as a kid and it scared me so much that I didn't want to keep reading. I can handle it much better now that I'm an adult! :)

I LOVE the Dark is Rising Series. I'm rereading them now, actually. I'm reading The Midnight Folk by John Masefield and I just finished the fascinating journals of Elizabeth Yates called Spanning Time. I have a million other things on my TBR stack, but those are my current faves.

I just looked The Midnight Folk up on Goodreads, and it looks right up my alley! I hope you enjoyed it!

I hope you enjoy your current reads! December is always a really productive reading month, the temptation to spend every evening cosied up with a book is so strong :-)

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
