This weekly meme is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
I love the lazy days of summer. This morning, I was able to sleep in. Now I'm sitting on my front porch enjoying the blue sky and sunshine, and getting very distracted by the book sitting next to me. Just a month of these days left to savor, until the craziness of the school year begins again!

My Recent Posts

Thoughts on Harry Potter (After my HP Reading Marathon a couple weeks ago, I put together some coherent thoughts - I hope - about the series as a whole. Feel free to add your opinion or your favorite parts of Harry Potter!)
Newbery Reading Challenge - Mini-Challenge #3 (If you're participating in my Newbery Reading Challenge this year, here's another chance to earn some extra bonus points!)

What I Read Last Week

Room by Emma Donoghue (Not what I expected, but oh my goodness, what a book!)
Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos (I seriously don't know how some books get to be chosen Newbery winners.)
Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier (Once Gwen stopped whining about a boy, I enjoyed this book a lot more.)
The Curriculum Vitae of Aurora Ortiz by Almudena Solana
The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton (I loved this book!!)

What I'm Reading Now

Picture
The Secret Life of William Shakespeare by Jude Morgan (I've always been fascinated by Shakespeare, so it's fun to read a historical fiction novel of his life.)

What's Coming Up Next

Picture
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (This honestly doesn't look like my sort of book at all, but it is a Newbery Award winner, so I'll give it a try. Besides, it's written by Neil Gaiman, so how bad could it possibly be?)

ROOM was one of those books that burrowed into my mind and heart. I read it just before the news broke about the girls who escaped from a similar situation a few years ago. Enjoy The Graveyard Book. I loved it!

I agree with you about Room. I wasn't so sure of it while I was reading it, but it just seemed to stick with me once I was done. I think I like it more after reading it than during. I'm glad to hear The Graveyard Book is a good read!

You seem to go for the type of books I like, so I'll be trying some of these titles. I actually picked up Room the other day, but as a teacher of young children I didn't know if I could read on as it made me uncomfortable, but I'll go back to it now.

Room did make me uncomfortable, but I think the story being told through the child's eyes helps dull that, actually. It's well worth reading, in my opinion.

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
