It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This weekly chance to add to your reading list is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.
This past weekend had a special treat for me - a visit to Barnes & Noble! I used to go there regularly, probably every 4-6 weeks at least. And then my son was born, and I haven't been since last May. It's not so easy to wander and browse with a little one in tow. But we made it work this weekend! Since I had a gift card and since this was my first visit in a long time, I splurged a bit and got five books. Here's what I bought (with a guest appearance by Pevensie), and I can't wait to read them!

What I Read Last Week

Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain by Oliver Sacks (This was a fascinating read.)
Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde (This series never fails to disappoint, no matter how many times I reread them.)
The Inquisitor's Tale: Or, The Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog by Adam Gidwitz (This was a 2017 Newbery Honor Book, and I loved it!)

What I'm Reading Now

The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson (I loved Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, so I am so excited to finally read Simonson's new book!)
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson (There's a lot more fighting than I remember from the Muppet version. . .)

Just think when your little one is that a couple of years older, you can browse Barnes & Noble together. I have a bookworm three year old, and I love visiting the bookstore with him, although we tend to visit the library more than the bookstore these days, so it does feel like a real treat. Great buys! Happy reading!

I am so looking forward to having him pick out his own books someday. I'm doing everything I can to turn him into a bookworm. Hopefully it works, like it did for your son!

YAY for Newberys this week and last week! I picked both up at my local indie (they were on the 25% off best-seller rack!) and hope to read them soon. PLUS The Girl Who Drank the Moon was a recent Audible daily deal...so let's just say I have options :) And the Penderwicks series has to happen soon for me -- I've heard it recommended so many times recently...so I jumped right to getting the boxed set before even reading the first (like you do ) :)

And that's a nice little B&N stack! I'm glad you got to enjoy a bookstore trip after so many months -- it's always a nice treat!

Yes, you have to read the Penderwicks! They are just delightful. I now own the first and fourth, and I'm keeping my eye out for the other two. It's a series I need to own so I can reread them often! :)

That Newbery looks wonderful! Since I left my job I am behind on reading them. I am glad you got some time to browse - it is so different , life with a baby/toddler! Have a great week. :)

I could have browsed for another half an hour at least (I didn't even get to the fiction section!), but I was grateful for the time I had. I just love the covers of both of those Newbery books, and what's inside hasn't disappointed, either! :)

I'm excited about reading my new books! The Girl Who Drank the Moon sounds like it would be fun on audio. Hope you enjoy it!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
