This weekly chance to add to your reading list is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.
And it's summer again. 80+ degrees for several days in a row now, of course right after we took the air conditioner out of the window. How am I supposed to drink hot apple cider when it's 80 degrees? In other news, I made my first order from Book Outlet this weekend. Oh, my goodness, that's going to be a very addictive website. So many good books! Such amazing prices!

Top Ten Theursday - Books I Loved the Year I Started My Blog

What I Read Last Week

Word By Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries by Kory Stamper (There was some unnecessary swearing in this book, but other than that, I loved it. It is utterly fascinating to learn how a dictionary is made.)
Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann (I wouldn't have picked this one up if it wasn't my book club book for the month, but I'm so glad I did. This is an aspect of American history that everyone needs to know about.)

What I'm Reading Now

The Woman Who Died a Lot by Jasper Fforde (Hey, look! It's only the middle of the month and I've already gotten to my Fforde reread for the month. It can be done!)
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe (96%! So close!)

What's Coming Up Next

The Masked City by Genevieve Cogman (I've been impatiently waiting to get to this one on my library stack!)

The weather can't make up its mind here either! I mean I guess it is technically summer for a few more days, but once I get those few days that feel like fall, I feel ready for them to stay.

It is so easy to keep filling up that Book Outlet cart -- for myself and for my son! AND they have sales sometimes just to tempt us more :)

I think that's the problem - we had a week of fall weather and my brain switched to fall. I'm ready to put the shorts away and get the sweaters out!

Book Outlet has sales? I'm in so much trouble. :)

Yes, they do have sales! And this is largely why I don't really want to recalculate my percentage for this year's Read the Books You Buy Challenge and see how far it had dropped -- though I have read a lot of the picture books at least! :)

I really enjoyed both Word by Word and Killers of the Flower Moon, too. I agree about the foul language in Word by Word. It seemed so out of place in such a sensible, smart book.

I think that was what bothered me about the swearing. I never like it in a book, but sometimes I can see how it enhances the sentence or the point the author is trying to make. None of the language in Word By Word felt like it did that. It was more like she wanted some street cred instead of being a geeky lexicographer. (See, we swear too!) :) I'll be sure to check your review out!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
