My Bookish Plans for 2017

1/6/2017

I absolutely love the goal-setting that the beginning of a new year brings! I am compiling a list of reading challenges that I hope to participate in this year, and those sign-up posts will be coming soon. But this post is about some of the reading plans and goals I have for myself this year.

Reread Jasper Fforde's Books

Jasper Fforde is one of my few auto-buy authors. I love his books. I've read some of them several times, and some of them only once. I've been wanting to revisit them for awhile, so I decided to do that this year. I've already read The Eyre Affair, which is the first book in his Thursday Next series, as my First Book of the Year. Now I'm hungering for more. I'm planning to read one a month, although he has 13 books published, so I'll have to slip an extra in there sometime.

Read Six Books I've Been Wanting to Get To

I've scoured my shelves and picked six books that I've been desperately wanting to read. Every time I see them I think "I want to read that soon." I've even sometimes pulled one of them and added them to a stack, yet I've never followed through. This is the year that they will get read! And I'm listing them here, so all of you can hold me to this:

- The Case for the Real Jesus by Lee Stroebel
- Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin
- Minders of Make-Believe: Idealists, Entrepreneurs, and the Shaping of American Children's Literature by Leonard S. Marcus
- ______ by George MacDonald (I own a lot of his books, so I'll pick one when it's time to read it.)
- The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling (How have I not read this one yet??)
- Crossworld: One Man's Journey into America's Crossword Obsession by Marc Romano

Read My Own Books

I've made this an unofficial goal every year, and often sign up for a challenge or two to help me out. Yet in 2016, of all the books I read, only 26% of them came from my own shelves. Yikes. I feel in need of a library intervention. So I'm setting a concrete goal for myself this year - 50% of the books I read should be books that I own. That's doable, right?

All right, those are my reading plans for 2017. Hold me accountable, please!

I always plan to read my own books too, though I tend to buy new ones which is why my TBR shelf does not reduce lol.

Good luck on you goals! I know you can do it!

Between the library and buying books, my TBR shelf (shelves) always seems to grow every year. Hopefully this will help solve that "problem"! :)

50% sounds like a great goal! I think year by year, if we keep improving, it gets easier. As much as I feel like I didn't do great on my ShelfLove challenge in 2017, I did better than the prior year. It's all about making it a habit I think -- we'll get there! :) Good luck and happy reading in 2017!

I like that idea of making it a habit. My default should be to pick a book off my own shelves, rather than head to the library. Hopefully this plan helps me work on that! :)

hm, I may join you for the Jasper Fforde experience. For me, I just kind of stalled on his series like I do on most series. lol It would work for my constant goal to catch-up on series and tackle my TBR!

That would be fun if you would read some Jasper Fforde books, too, Kailana! They're so much fun!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
