My Son's Go, Dog. Go! Birthday Party

4/19/2018

My son turned two this month, and when I sat down to figure out what his birthday party theme should be, my mind naturally traveled to books. And then it was an obvious choice. His favorite book currently is Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman. Sounded like a fun birthday party to me!

I'm really not a big party planner sort of person, so I was extremely thankful for Pinterest for providing lots of ideas. We decorated in green and orange, like the cover of the book. And I printed out pages from the book to go with some of the food.

Here's the whole "cake" with my son who was being goofy and wouldn't let us take a good picture. Ah, two-year-olds!

How is your son 2 year old already? Wow! What a great party theme! That was Christopher's favorite book around that age as well. I never really understood why since it doesn't really have a plot, but he loved it. You did a great job on the party. And your little guy is super cute, even if he is covering his face. Haha.

I can't believe he's two already, either! You're right that it doesn't have a plot. That drives me crazy occasionally, especially on the fourth or fifth reading in a row. :) Thank you!

Ahhh! This is SO COOL! I’m not a big planner party person either and have never attempted a theme, but i love it :) :)

A friend of ours did something really cool last year for her sons’ party — since it was circus themed, she picked a book (a Dr Seuss, I’m pretty sure), wrote the date and their ages on the front flyleaf, and then used it as a sort of guest book/keepsake. Everyone at the party then signed it and wrote a message to the boys inside — if I ever did a theme, I would totally steal that idea :)

PS have you seen the HUGE difference between the regular edition and board book edition of Go Dog Go? Usually they’re not so different, but WOW. I was kind of disappointed to find the “real” book doesn’t rhyme!

I love that idea!! I'm pretty sure I'll be stealing that, too! :)

We haven't actually read the board book version of Go Dog Go, but I've run across that in a couple of other books. We have the board books of Put Me in the Zoo and Mr. Brown Can Moo, and wow, is there a lot left out compared to the "real" version! I guess it makes sense format-wise, but it was such a surprise when we read the real editions for the first time!

I love this! Where did you get the cut outs of the dogs for the cupcakes?

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
