Another year has flown by so fast that I didn't even get a chance to get this post up before it ended! So once again, no fancy pie charts (sad, because I love those, but I just don't have the time!). Here are all my stats! I'm pretty surprised at how much reading I got in this year, while chasing around a one-year-old. We'll see if that continues as he gets older and harder to catch! :)
Books read: 156
Pages read: 40,665
Audiobooks: 12%

Fiction: 81%
Nonfiction: 19%
Male authors: 48%
Female authors: 52%
Books I owned: 51% (Woohoo! Up from 26% in 2016!)
Books from the library: 49%

Set in the United States: 37%
Set in Europe: 36%
Set elsewhere in the world: 10%
Set in a fictional place: 17%
Books published in the 2000s: 75%
Books published in the 1900s: 19%
Books published before 1900: 6%

My Top Reads of 2017 (I had so much trouble narrowing this down,
as you will see!)

Favorite fiction books: First Impressions by Charlie Lovett & The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson
Favorite nonfiction books: Word by Word by Kory Stamper & American Eclipse by David Baron
Favorite children's books (Am I allowed to have a three-way tie?): The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley & The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic by Jennifer Trafton & The Ark Plan: The Edge of Extinction by Laura Martin
Favorite young adult book: North! or Be Eaten by Andrew Peterson (the second book in the Wingfeather Saga)
Favorite series: The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place series by Maryrose Wood

Your Books Owned stat is awesome! I just spent the first few days of the new year slightly obsessing over how I want to track my reading for 2018 -- I think I've got it figured out, though now I'm considered a couple extra categories looking at this post :)

And I love that The War that Saved My Life was one of your faves! <3 <3

Happy New Year & here's to another year of great books!

I can't believe I hit my 50% of reading books owned. It inspires me to try for 75% this year, but I think I would stress myself out with that too much. Using the library is good, too - in moderation! :) This was the first year that I kept track of copyright date, and that was really interesting. I'm definitely doing that again this year!

I read so many great middle grade books this year that that category was the hardest to narrow down to my favorites (could you tell?). But there was no doubt that The War that Saved My Life would be on the list. It was so good! :)

I'm intrigued by your vote for First Impressions! I really enjoyed Lovett's Grail title and then tried First Impression. I had a hard time liking Sophie. She seemed so manipulative. I'd love to hear what you enjoyed about it! :) I too liked Jennifer Grafton's Mount Majestic and we enjoyed the Wingfeather Saga also! :D I loved reading through this. Thanks for sharing!

I read First Impressions early in the year last year, so I don't remember specifics of why I liked it so much. I'm sure it had to do with the Jane Austen-ness and the general bookishness. Those get me every time. :) I'm so glad to find another reader of the Wingfeather Saga! They're so good!

What a great reading year you had, Julie - and all those books read from your own shelves!

Here's to a wonderful 2018 - reading & otherwise.

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
