Read One Million Pages Challenge

11/26/2013

I heard of this concept awhile ago - read one million pages in your lifetime. It sounded doable, but then I did some math. If I read 40,000 pages a year, it will take me 25 years to read 1,000,000 pages! It sounds a bit overwhelming. Oh, well. I'm going to go for it anyway!

I joined the Goodreads group for this, and then started searching for a picture to display along with my page count. I couldn't find one in the blogosphere, so I created my own!

If anyone else wants to join me in the quest, feel free to sign up with the Linky below. I'd love some company!
And if you do decide to join me, here's the button I made. Copy and paste the hyperlink below to use it on your blog.

I want to join in! This is so cool!

BTW, if you want to make the button with the thing so people can more easily get it and have it link back to you, check out this website: http://www.mycoolrealm.com/sandbox/gbgen/

If you're confused at all, you can always email me and I'll help you out! rebecca@loveatfirstbook.com

A friend helped me out with it, and it's awesome!

I'm glad you like the idea!

Thanks for the link for creating the button. That looks easier than the way I did it. I appreciate the tip!

I'd like to join. When do we start counting?

Awesome! You can start counting anytime you would like. I started with my total so far for 2013, since I was keeping track for another challenge. I'd say you can dive in with whatever count you have and go from there!

I've been doing this for a while now, and when I saw this post, I was so happy to learn that I'm not the only one doing this, and that there's even a group on Goodreads! :)

I saw the group but I'm not a GR member anymore (always forgot about it). Never thought of making up the challenge and sending it out into the world. Thanks so much for doing that! I'll be back in a bit to sign up officially

I'm in! I kept a log of my books for years, but I've slacked off the past few.

When I first read the challenge title, I though that it was very doable. Then I read your post and was left depressed. Ha!

Thanks for hosting this one!

Doing the math makes it a bit more formidable, doesn't it? :) I know we'll both get there. Nothing wrong with taking some time to accomplish a good goal! Thanks for joining in!

This sounds like interesting. Thanks for hosting.

I have been keeping track of my pages since 1998. I looked on the Goodreads page and it said that anything read in your lifetime counts towards your million but I didn't see anything on this page. For your challenge, where do I start?

Go ahead and use those pages since 1998. What a great start that gives you! I kept track of the pages I read one summer during high school, and boy do I wish I still had that list so I could include that page count!

Welcome to the challenge!

Since I'm keeping track of every book read I just add the page number and then add them up! Much easier than going back and trying to remember :-)

I'm in! I'll get my post done and link up ASAP. According to Goodreads, I've already read about a quarter of a million--but the stats don't seem to cover books that I don't have a definite date for (for a long time I just kept a running record of books read but not the dates...drat my younger self); so I've probably got more than that. I'm going to use my Goodreads number as my launching pad.

Wow! That's a lot of pages to start with. I'm basing mine off my Goodreads number, too. It's nice to have someone else do the math. :)

I've met my goal for the year (40,000 pages). We'll see how many more I can add to that before the year's up....

Oops, I think my link cut off trying to copy & paste it -- my progress is viewable at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GZ6ne2XAG-wsptx4iVOWl2Ll-d6P6wSTMt4RQ3ww6T8/ -- hopefully that works, this is the first time I've tried making a google doc viewable to others.

Welcome, Angela! It looks like it didn't work on the Linky. If you want, I can delete it and you can try again. The link in your comment does work. A Google Doc is a great way to keep track!

Looks like I know what I will be doing in my spare time - adding up all of the pages (that I know about) of the books I have read. It will be interesting to find out how many I have read up to now! Thanks for pointing out this challenge to me! :)

This is great! I'd love to join and see how many pages I can read while I'm enrolled in graduate school. :) And the Newberry Medal Challenge fits in here as well. :)

See you on the other side of a million!

By the way, where did you get your ticker for counting pages?

So glad you're joining us, Nicky! I honestly can't find where I got my page counter from originally. I think it was something someone used for NaNoWriMo, and I borrowed it from them. Hopefully you've found something that works for you! :)

Hello all,I made myself this challenge a couple of months ago and thought it was just a ridiculous idea I had for a reading goal (I read a lot anyway) and I'm happy to find I'm not the only one trying to do this.. I aim to finish in at least five to six years, which is a 500 page book most days, or at most ten years, which is a 275 page book every day give or take a few pages
