Saturday Snapshot

These were one of my favorite discoveries on our trip to Paris this summer. Walking along the river one day, we saw all of these green boxes. We made a few guesses, but couldn't figure out what they were. . .
Picture
. . . until the next day, when we saw them opened up. They're used book stands! Businessmen on their way home from work, mothers doing the shopping for the day - everyone stopped to peruse the selection of books.
Picture
And I would have been right there with them, if only the books weren't all in French. Instead, I had to settle for taking pictures and enjoying the aesthetic appeal.

Unfortunately, all the books were in French, so I didn't buy any. On second thought, that's probably a good thing. . .

How wonderful! I haven't been to Paris since high school. We wanted to take our kids to Europe last summer but, alas, too expensive for four people - just the airfares were outrageous. Some day!

Thanks for sharing -

Sue

You're right, traveling is very expensive. But definitely worth it. I was very blessed to be able to take this trip this summer.

I love the beautifully bound books in your last two pictures! Someday I want to own lots of the classics with covers like those :)

I was thinking the same thing, Katie! Wouldn't those make a beautiful library?

That does look fun, and some of those books looks really gorgeous.

Aren't they? It would almost be a shame to buy any. It would spoil the overall effect!

Everyone should visit Paris once in a lifetime (at least!). And when you go, make sure you keep an eye out for these book stands!

I went to Paris this summer as well, and had such an amazing holiday, but then Paris is an amazing place. I wanted to buy something from the bouquinistes this time, but didn't get the chance, we did walk past many, many times though, and I always enjoyed it, they're so characterful and interesting.

Paris is amazing for so many reasons! I think these book stands and their delicious pastries and bread are my top two!

Wouldn't that be wonderful? I think I need to find a river somewhere and start building some of those!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
