Saturday Snapshot

This is something I love about Britain. When I went to London for the first time in 2005, I was just astounded that they advertised books in this way - on the sides of buses and as posters in Tube stations. It's not something I've ever seen in America (although that doesn't mean it doesn't happen). When we visited London this summer, I made sure to take pictures of some of these book posters. What a great way to get the word out there about a new book!

What a great observation. It is interesting how thing, and books particularly, are advertised in different countries.

Wonderful observation. I do remember now that years ago when I was visiting England, seemed there were more people reading in tubes and trains...etc. than in N. Am. Should be an interesting sociological study. ;)

Interesting, as I hadn't realised that books weren't advertised in other cities.

Interesting observation. I don't recall ever seeing poster ads here in the US either. I have seen oversized book ads in airports and train stations, but usually they are outside a book store.

I wish we had more of this type of advertising here. Perhaps bookstores wouldn't be so likely to close down if there were some advertising for books.

Much better to see these ads than the usual ads for university classes, alcoholic beverages, escort services, etc. etc that pepper the subways and poles in American cities!

Now that's some advertising I could get behind!

I have never seen this in the US either although I am not a big traveler...

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
