Top Ten Book Related Problems I Have

I've seen and enjoyed a lot of posts that are part of The Broke and the Bookish's Top Ten Tuesdays. I haven't participated myself yet, though. I decided to change that today. And what a great topic to start with!

Top Ten Book Related Problems I Have

1. Not enough space for all of the books that I own. I already have a dedicated room in my house for all my books. They don't fit. I recently had to put a bookshelf in another room to accommodate all of the books I bought last year.

2. Not enough time to read. This silly thing called life keeps getting in my way.

3. Reading books from the library instead of books that I own. I'm really bad about this. I've read probably less than half of the books that I own, yet I keep buying more and then getting books from the library to read.

4. Difficulty getting rid of books. There are books in my collection that I have already read and I have no plans to reread. There are also books in my collection that I will probably never read. Can I get rid of any of them? Of course not.

5. Finding a place in my purse for all of my Barnes & Noble gift cards. (I guess I wouldn't necessarily classify this as a problem . . .)

6. Not being able to mark rereads on Goodreads. Seriously annoying.

7. Being overly addicted to reading challenges. I love reading challenges, but every once in awhile, I feel too constricted. I was trying to limit the number I signed up for in 2015 in order to avoid this problem. Did I succeed? Not even close. Fifteen reading challenges. Ah, well. I brought it on myself. And it's still so much fun to accomplish things!

8. Not having a large enough purse to carry a book around in. I'm one of those take-a-book-with-you-everywhere-you-go sort of people. But my purse fits my wallet, keys, phone, and that's about it. It looks a little awkward to just carry a book, but when desperate. . .

9. Loving physical books too much to enter the whole digital reading world. I just can't give up the smell and the feel and the turning of pages. Someday I may discover that a Kindle is the most miraculous device in the world. But I don't think that day is coming anytime soon.

10. Not having people understand when all I want to do is stay home on a Friday night and read. Just happened to me last week. Are there really better ways to spend Friday night than curled up with a good book?

I'm kind of envious of your "problem" of too many Barnes and Nobles gift cards! ;)
I have a hard time getting rid of books too! It's easier to read them and then, immediately try to give them to someone else. Otherwise, I find a reason to keep it.

My family has given up on getting me books and just gets me B&N gift cards instead. I don't know how I've accumulated such a pile of them. Must be time to go shopping! :)

I'm trying to be better this year about culling my bookshelves, especially as the kids start their own book collections and space is getting tight! I like donating books to my local library for their book sale. You might also look around for a used bookstore that will let you swap your books for store credit!

P.S. I think your Friday night sounds just about perfect. :)

There's a used bookstore by my mom's house that lets you donate books for credit. I'm not entirely sure that solves my problem, though. ;) The library may be the best way to go!

I can relate to so many of these! I have seven large bookshelves, and that's still not enough to hold all of my books! I have an ever-growing pile in the corner of my living room. I also always take a book with me, so my requirements for any purse is that it be able to hold my wallet, cell phone, and a book. If it can also hold my journal, even better. And yay for Friday night reading parties! They're the best. :)

I have five large and two (nope, it's three now) small bookcases. I think I just need to take over a whole floor of the house, and then I'll be good (for awhile). :)

I totally agree with the not being able to mark rereads on Goodreads. I definitely want a reread to count toward my reading challenges.

Exactly! If I miss my Goodreads goal by one book, I'll be a little annoyed. :)

Guilty of many of these.

Book lovers usually have similar problems - too many books and not enough reading time!

Finding the time to read is tricky, I'll agree!! Here's a link to my TTT for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/02/top-ten-tuesday-ten-book-related.html

That's what those stay-at-home Friday nights are for, right? :)

Goodreads seriously needs to figure out the re-read thing! I love re-reading! :)
Glad to see you join the Top Ten Tuesday world. :)

Especially with your reading challenge this year! So far I've been okay because I've reread books that I haven't logged on Goodreads in the first place. To Kill a Mockingbird is the first book I've had this issue with. Hopefully they get it figured out soon!

Getting rid of books is something I've been working on lately.

I have a pretty minimal library compared to a lot of other book bloggers, but I also have a small space in which to store my books. We live in a small, two bedroom miners cottage and whilst I love the cosiness, it does mean it can look and feel cluttered easily. I'm trying to take a more simplistic approach to life and kind of left books off that approach, but then I realised that wasn't the way to go. It's been a gradual process, getting rid of 10 - 20 here and there, but I'm now at a collection I'm happy with; all the books I own and have read I LOVE and will definitely reread in the future.
:-)

That's pretty impressive. I have a really hard time limiting my books. I don't have the amount of self-control you have, apparently. :)

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
