This weekly frenzy of listing is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Fantasy was one of my favorite genres as a kid (and I didn't even discover Harry Potter until high school). There's just something special about reading fantasy books when you're a kid - they're more believable, more real. If I had to teach a class on anything, children's fantasy books would be it!

I love when I've read almost all of these books! Such great choices! I re-read these books over and over again as a child. Wizard of Oz was a staple in my diet. A couple of these I haven't read but I've heard of so someday I'll have to read them (add them to million long list of books). ;)

I've only read the first Oz book, but my cousin was addicted to them as a kid. I really need to read more of them one of these days! (I think my post just added to my own TBR list. How did that happen?) :)

I have that exact same set of Narnia books - some of my very fave reads as a child and still as an adult! <a href="https://readingismysuperpower.wordpress.com/2015/08/25/top-ten-tuesday-kissing-books/">My TTT</a>

I just reread Narnia this year. They're still just as good as an adult, aren't they? :)

I adored fantasy as a kid, and still prefer YA fantasy for the most part. I second most of your choices, and would probably add Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea series. I don't know if Cricket in Times Square and The Phantom Tollbooth strictly qualify, but I loved those too.

I haven't actually read the Earthsea series, so I didn't include them. I definitely need to fill that fantasy gap, though! The Phantom Tollbooth was my first runner-up. I just didn't have room on the list. :)

It's a great list! I wish kids still read like this---they are classics.

I agree - these should be mandatory reading for all kids! :)

I love Harry Potter (obviously) and remember enjoying The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe when I was a kid, but I could never get into the other Narnia books. Inkheart is one that I haven't read, but really want to.

The rest of the Narnia books might be worth a try now that you're grown up. Just saying. :)

I would love this reading list, especially as a kid! You're right, fantasy is just not the same as when you're a kid... I find I can't get lost in a fantasy world as easily now. And the majority of fantasy books I do read now are aimed at children, as opposed to adults.

I agree - I still love reading middle grade fantasy novels. There are some great ones out there!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
