Waiting Impatiently for 2014 Reading Challenges. . .

I discovered the world of reading challenges this year, and I absolutely love it. In fact, you can read about my devotion in this post. I had so much fun this year participating in and completing reading challenges.

I'm already accumulating challenges for 2014 (although I have yet to officially sign up for any). I have a spreadsheet that keeps growing. Every time I look around my library, I see another book that would work for a reading challenge. I am prepared and extremely excited.

But it's only December 19. And since most of the reading challenges don't allow you to count books begun before January 1, I have twelve days to fill. This is harder than I thought.
I'm planning to join a TBR challenge, so I don't want to start pulling books off my own shelves yet. I'm also planning to join a library books challenge, so I don't really want to use that source. I'm avoiding books with colors in the titles, as well as titles that start with a more obscure letter of the alphabet for my A-Z challenge. I don't want to read books that take place in other countries, because those could count for my European or global challenges. Short books are out. Long books are out.
I love reading challenges, but this waiting for January 1, 2014 is driving me crazy! Is there anyone else who feels this way, or am I just overly committed to reading challenges?

YES! YES! YES! The wait is insane! I have Five challenges lined out and have signed up for them. My planning is done. I am frantically trying to finish A Tale of Two Cities to end my year. January will start with Don Quixote. Long and hard from what I understand. 2014 is gong to be a challenge with the selections I have made. I have listed the links to my sign up posts on the left side bar on my blog...Oh the anticipation! The only thing I haven't figures is what my Good Reads total should be for 2014... I think I had better count that up today!

You're a lot more organized than I am! I have a list of challenges, but I haven't planned out any books for them yet. I'm looking forward to doing that once 2014 finally hits. I read Don Quixote a few years ago, and I enjoyed it. It's long, yes, but it's a good story!

I am the same way! I love reading challenges and have so much fun with them each year. I'm already making plans for next year and can't wait to start.

Just nine more days to go! Sometimes holiday busyness is okay - it distracts me from all the books I can't read yet! :)

Oh I know! I'm in the same boat and was last year too. Can't wait for all of them to be announced. Do you know of the website a Novel Challenge? most put theirs up there

Yes, that's where I find most of the challenges I plan to participate and I also post the challenges I'm hosting there. I think the site is awesome. I love being able to find a ton of challenges in one place.

Yup, I've discovered that one too. It makes my list of challenges a lot longer, but it's a lot of fun to look through!

I've never joined in any reading challenges except the goodreads challenge each year. I want to join some this year and create a spreadsheet to keep up with them. Does anyone have ideas on what I need to include on the spreadsheet or how I need to set it up?? :)

Hi, Shannon! I created a spreadsheet this year to keep track of what 2014 reading challenges I'm signing up for. I have the name of the challenge, the blog hosting it, the level I'm signing up for, and the link to the challenge's sign-up post.

If you're going to keep track of your progress in the spreadsheet too, you'll probably want to list the titles and authors of the books you read. Maybe the number of pages as well (some challenges require this). And the category each book helps you fulfill for the challenge. You can set it up one way and then tweak it as you go. Find what works for you! :)

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
