Today is the last day of summer! School starts tomorrow. I am very excited for a new class and a new year, but I love being able to sleep in as late as I want during the summer. And reading as much as I want. . . At least this has been a very relaxing weekend. I hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend as well!

What I Read Last Week

The Awakening of Miss Prim by Natalia Sanmartin Fenollera ("Pleasant" and "lovely" are the perfect words to describe this book.)
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion (If you haven't read this one yet, what are you waiting for??)
Holes by Louis Sachar (I've reread this one several times, and I never ceased to be impressed by the interconnected plot.)
The Martian by Andy Weir (I really wish there could have been less swearing, but other than that, I loved this book!)

What I'm Reading Now

The View from Saturday by E.L. Konisburg (I'm really enjoying this Newbery winner.)
Emma by Jane Austen (Almost to the end of the read-along! It's so hard not to read ahead. . .)

What's Coming Up Next

Emma by Alexander McCall Smith (Since I'm reading the original, I thought I would give this retelling a try.)

I wish we were just starting school tomorrow. We have had a rough start for 11th grade. Ugh.

I've wanted to read The View From Saturday for a while. Let me know what you think.

I just won a snazzy copy of Emma for Austen in August. Yay! I'll probably wait til next summer to read it.

I mentioned you in my last blog post. Go on over and check it out.:)

Hope the school year gets better for you. The View from Saturday is awesome. I've actually read that one to a sixth grade class before. Some of the Newbery winners, I think at least, are too deep to really be enjoyed by kids. This one strikes the right balance.

One of these years I really have to participate in Austen in August!

Thanks for the mention! Glad to be inspirational! :)

I love Holes!! It is hands down one of my favorite kids books. When I worked in the school library, I always suggested it to my reluctant readers and they usually would end up loving it as well. :) Have a great day back!!

I can see how Holes would easily draw in those reluctant readers. Good idea! :)

I read Holes for school I believe... I'll have to see if my local library has that one and delve in to it now. I wonder if my opinion has changed at all.

What a good idea to read a retelling after the original. Although we're coming to the end of it now, I hope your reading week went well!

It's always interesting to reread books as an adult that we originally read when we were younger.

The retelling has been an interesting experience. I'm not sure if it's better or worse that I'm reading it so soon after the original!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
