It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This weekly chance to add to your reading list is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date.
This past week was parent-teacher conferences, which was great but also exhausting. It also meant (since I teach at the nicest school ever) that we had no school on Friday to give all of us teachers a chance to recover from our 14-hour days. I spent the day reading and sipping hot chocolate in my cozy library. A pretty nice reward for a crazy week! :)

What I Read Last Week

The Hidden White House: Harry Truman and the Reconstruction of America's Most Famous Residence by Robert Klara (A fascinating read)
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender (I devoured this one on my day off - and really wished for some lemon cake to devour along with it.)
I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai (I wasn't sure if I was going to read this one for Nonfiction November, but I am so glad I did. What an incredible person she is.)

What I'm Reading Now

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain (I read Huck Finn in high school, but somehow missed this boyhood romp.)
The Importance of Being Earnest and Four Other Plays by Oscar Wilde (I finished A Woman of No Importance over the weekend. Just two more plays to go in this collection!)

I too am reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I wish it were done! I'm really not enjoying it much...

It took me awhile to get into it, too. Once it started being more of a single plot than a series of sketches, I found myself enjoying it more.

Well your Friday sounds like the most perfect day! Also, I need to read more books about books!

Happy reading!

Books about books are the best!

I am reading nothing right now. I finished Winter and The Bronte Plot on Saturday, and I haven't started a new book yet. Well...I am listening to The Rules of Thoughts in my car, so I guess that counts.

That's such a strange feeling to be in between books, isn't it?

So pleased you have a school that gives you the Friday in return for all that amazing time and effort for parent/tchr interviews. No matter how well they go they are so draining. Glad you had the lemon cake book if not the lemon cake to relax with!

It's crazy how exhausting parent/teacher conferences are. I had no energy left by the end of the week!

I own a copy of The Reading Promise and really look forward to reading that soonest. We had a reading theme on books about books a few years back, I am now thinking that we should do that again for 2016 or perhaps 2017. :)

Books about books are some of my favorites! There's nothing better than reading about what you love. :)

I read The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. I can't remember the book, but I think I liked it. :)

I hope you are having a good reading week.

I enjoyed The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. Most of my book club wasn't so fond of it, but I think that's because they weren't familiar with the genre of magical realism. It is kind of a weird book...

Wow, that's great of your school (Aussie teachers don't get anything for parent/teacher evenings)!

Have a lovely week, you've earned it!

My name is Julie, and I own a lot of books. As in, they are stacked on the floor because I've run out of room on the shelves. And those shelves? There are so many books on them that they smile -- not sag; smile. This blog will cover book reviews and all manner of other bookish things.
